Madekwe was raised by an ethnically diverse family. The father of her is Nigerian as well as Swiss and the mother of her is English. She was born on the South London Council Estate, and then was a student at The Brit School aged 14. Ashley Leggat was born in Hamilton, Ontario, into an extended family of. Her parents Roy and Patty, as well as her four brothers, Brett, Todd, and Bram who were also present.
